Youth Minister Position

Position: Coordinator of Youth Ministry

Work Schedule: 30-40 hours per week; Primary work hours are to be present to the youth and their parents when they are available, with presence on some days during office hours to collaborate with pastor and parish staff.


Job Summary: The Coordinator of Youth Ministry coordinates a Comprehensive Catholic Youth Ministry program that engages spiritual, service and social activities designed to engage the youth of the parish, with a focus on Junior High and High School (grades 6-12).


Responsibilities:

  • Overall duties include establishing opportunities for youth and their families to actively participate in the life of the parish as well as providing opportunities for youth to grow in their relationship with Jesus.
  • Collaborates with the Pastor on all pastoral activities including service learning experiences, youth liturgy planning, retreats, and youth leadership.
  • In collaboration with the Pastor, prepares a calendar of events for Youth Ministry.
  • Communicates and collaborates with the parents of the youth and facilitates opportunities for adult volunteers.
  • Assembles a youth ministry leadership team for adults and youth.
  • Assumes other responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Pastor


Qualifications:

  • Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing and must know, profess and act consistently in accordance with the teachings of the Catholic Church and the policies of the Diocese of Joliet, The Clerics of St. Viator, and Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish.
  • Basic computer skills, including MS Word and Outlook, and an understanding of social media.
  • Availability on weekends and to be present to meet youth, parents and parishioners where they are.
  • Ability to pass background checks.
  • Willingness to engage in professional development and continuing education opportunities.
