2017-2018 Confirmation Requirements/Schedule
All 7th graders should attend the Confirmation Meeting held in the spring of their 7th grade year.
The following Confirmation Requirements will be discussed at that meeting.
All students should be attending Mass every weekend and holy days with your family and write a Mass reflection after each Mass to be kept in your Confirmation Binder. Extra copies of Mass Reflections can be printed here.
You should be performing 3 volunteer/service projects every month. You need to log these service projects in your Confirmation Binder.
*You are required to complete 2 of the 3 Student/Sponsor Activities listed below with your Sponsor (due before February 28th meeting with Father) Pick only 2.
1.) Perform a Volunteer/Service together - Note it on your service log in your Confirmation Binder - If you cannot find a way to physically do a service together, each should do a comparable service where they live and communicate about it...both work in a soup kitchen, both run a mitten/hat drive, etc.
2.) Attend Mass together - Note this on your Mass Reflection sheet in your Confirmation Binder. If you cannot find a way to physically go to Mass together, go to Mass on the same day in your own parishes and discuss the readings/songs/homily that were at each of your Masses.
3.) Read a Bible Story together. Choose any Bible passage and read it together, discuss it, and then the student writes a reflection on what you thought/felt about it.
In addition, you are required to attend a Prayerful Lenten Experience with your sponsor at any church. After discussion about the experience, the student writes a 150 word paragraph reflection on Lend and the prayer experience. Ash Wednesday is February 14th. This paragraph is due March 7. It can be turned into Elise Dubravec in your RE. class, or Mrs. Bassett at Bishop McNamara. Mrs. Pallissard will collect it from those teachers. Examples of Lenten Experiences are Reconciliation, Taize Prayer, Stations of the Cross, Adoration/Veneration, listen to a speaker, etc.
Also, you must do each of the following:
August 26/27 - Binder drop off in the church after Mass. Pick up the following week. Please enclose your Record of Baptism, Baptismal Certificate and $30 which can all be placed in your binder to be checked.
September 24 - Parent and child attend Confirmation Enrollment at the 11:00 a.m. Mass. Binder drop off in church after Mass. Pick up the following weekend.
September 24 - Deadline for asking Sponsor
October 18 - Student attends Saint Report Discussion 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in the parish center. Bring saint report, saint poster, sponsor bio, active parishioner letter from sponsor's parish and sponsor's baptism certificate. Binder check at this discussion.
October 22 - Sponsor/Student Prayer 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in the parish center. Binder returned.
November 5 - Harvest Sunday Week #1 at Noon. All Students must attend. Parent Drivers are needed. Binder drop off in the church after Mass.
November 12 - Harvest Sunday Week #2 at Noon. All Students must attend. Parent Drivers are needed. Binder pick up before Mass.
December 3 - Advent Reflection in the parish center 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Binder drop off in the church after Mass. Pick up the following weekend.
January 24 - ** This a change of date... Confirmation Panel Discussion 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in the parish center. Parents and Sponsors are not required to attend but are welcome. Binder check during discussion.
February 14 - Lent Begins! Attend a Prayerful Lenten Experience with your Sponsor anytime between now and March 7th. The 150 word paragraph reflection is due on March 7th. See further details at the top of this page.
February 18 - Confirmation Retreat - starts at the 11:00 a.m. Mass. This is a diocesan requirement and cannot be missed! Students must wear comfortable pants, jeans, khakis or other pants but NO YOGA PANTS and NO ATHLETIC PANTS. You will be called up to the altar at Mass, so please look presentable. Students will be taken to the gym, and can be picked up in the school parking lot at 4:30 p.m. Pizza will be served for lunch. Please DO NOT BRING CELL PHONES! If you cannot attend this retreat for any reason, we will have to find you another confirmation retreat at another parish.
*Please be reminded that you must complete your Student/Sponsor activities (see *asterick above) before the February 28th meeting with Father
February 28 - Students meet with Father 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in the parish center. Binder check during discussion.
March 7 - Prayerful Lenten Experience with your Sponsor reflection is due. This is a 150 word paragraph that is due to Elise Dubravec or Mrs. Bassett. See top of page for further details under Prayerful Lenten Experience with your Sponsor.
March 10 - Confirmation Rehearsal at 9:00 a.m. in the Church. Both Sponsor and student (Confirmandi) need to attend. If the sponsor is not available, a parent should attend in their place. Attire is casual for this rehearsal.
March 11 - CONFIRMATION at 2:00 p.m. in the church. A seat will be reserved for each student and sponsor. Additionally, each Confirmation family will have a half a pew reserved for them which could seat 4 adults comfortably. There will be other seating available on a first come first serve basis.
Attire for confirmation:
Boys: should wear dress pants, shirt and tie and dress shoes. Suit jackets are not required.
Girls: should wear a dress, dress pants or skirt and blouse. Skirt length should be appropriate (down to the knees). No bare shoulders or cleavage should be shown. Attire should be appropriate for Church, not a dance! The Confirmandi will be asked to walk up to the altar, so please wear shoes that are easy enough to walk in (and up stairs without tripping)
Immediately following Confirmation, there will be a brief reception in the school gym where students may pick up their certificates and take photos with Father.
Remember: Religious Education continues till May. Service and making an effort to get something out of Mass should continue forever - because that's what Catholics do!
